Threads: 1/2-28, 0.400″ long (rimfire length). We cut a proper thread relief at the base of the threads for compatibility with any 1/2-28 device.
Assembly OAL notes:
Rimfire barrels sit at a different position in the upper than centerfire barrels due to the design of the bolt. The chamber entrance is about 1.5″ farther back in the upper once assembled. This will result in a shorter overall length of rifle/pistol than the same rifle/pistol built with a centerfire barrel of the same length.
1.625″ of barrel length is inside the upper for rimfire barrels,
0.375″ of barrel length is inside the upper for a centerfire barrel.
4.5″ rimfire builds to an OAL similar to a 3″ centerfire (2.875″ of the barrel is in front of the upper threads)
12.1″ rimfire builds to an OAL similar to a 10.5″ centerfire (10.5″ of the barrel is in front of the upper threads)
16.1″ rimfire builds to an OAL similar to a 14.5″ centerfire (14.5″ of the barrel is in front of the upper threads)
21″ rimfire builds to an OAL similar to a 20″ centerfire (19.375″ of the barrel is in front of the upper threads)
12.1″ – 10″ rail maximum for barrel threads exposed
16.1″ – 14″ rail maximum for barrel threads exposed

I built my own upper assembly in December of 2024 using the BoreBuddy 16″ Apogee Match barrel, BB bolt group and buffer pressure plug. The upper receiver came from BCM and the handguard from ALG Defense. Magazines are S&W M&P 15-22 with the Better Mag adapter. After the first couple of rounds to get the mag adapter placed correctly, the gun has run flawlessly and shoots CCI standard velocity into .8 inches at 50 yards. Consistently. No tuning necessary. I couldn’t be happier with my purchase.

I purchased the 16″ version and have no regrets with my purchase. This barrel is worth every penny if you are looking to make a reliable and accurate AR22. I run a CMMG bolt carrier with M&P 15-22 magazines, I have run around 200 rounds through this barrel and have had zero feeding issues. I have had diffculty extracting live rounds which isn’t unexpected so I am going to try upgrading my extractor and see if that clears up that issue. I have found that my particular barrel loves Wolf Target Match ammo and it averaged about .85 MOA over 6 test groups with the best being .55 MOA @ 50 yds. I would not be upset with this perfromance from a bolt action rifle so I am extremely happy to see this from a semi auto rifle.

I purchased the 21″ barrel for a custom non-mechanically fired bullpup rifle. It works well but needs some work. The only issue I have is there is not a proper feed ramp on the chamber which leads to a lot of feeding issues. I have not seen a AR-22 barrel that actually has the feed ramp outside of the ones on the CMMG conversion bolts that drop into .223/5.56 chambers. The barrel is of acceptional quality and accuracy for the rounds I was able to get to feed properly. Out of the first 150 rounds, I didn’t get more than 5 to fire in a row. Even using jacketed rounds, trying to feed would leave a lot of lead behind on the bolt face. All this being said, I would highly recommend this barrel and suggest that some smithing is done to provide an additional ramp for the cartridges to feed properly. The work can be done with a file, some sand paper and a rotary tool. This will be the fourth barrel this year I’ve done that work on and hope it will feed a lot better when fixed.

I built my AR22 originally using a CMMG bolt and barrel and from the start I had issues with feeding, extracting and a higher rate of failure to fire than I could blame on ammo. After finding Bore Buddy’s website I decided to add their firing pin, extractor, bolt weight, reci3ver extension plug and springs. These upgrades got my rifle running nearly a 100% reliable. On to the next issue and that was the accuracy I was getting with the CMMG barrel and it was horrible, 4″-5″ at 50yds with bulk ammo and even worse with better quality ammo. I use this rifle for a cheap multie gun trainer so pin point accuracy was necessary, but the accuracy I 2ws getting was unacceptable for any application. After installing the BB match barrel I was instantly impressed my first range trip. My bulk ammo groups were cut in half. Using SKS Standard and Wolf Match I was able to post 5rd clover leaf groups. Note: The wolf was slightly better. I can’t wait to see how the barrel performs as it continues to break in. All the BB products have had a measurable performance upgrade for my rifle. I won’t hesitate to recommend.
